Axion Roofing installs, repairs and restores roof systems across Calgary, Alberta. Flori, the owner of Axion Roofing, runs every estimate and every job walkthrough personally, so the person who quotes your roof is the person accountable for how it is installed.
Calgary sits in the middle of Hailstorm Alley, the hail corridor that runs from High River north through Calgary and Red Deer to Lacombe and west to Rocky Mountain House. The August 5, 2024 hailstorm produced $3.25 billion in insured losses and more than 130,000 claims, which the Insurance Bureau of Canada ranks as the second-costliest insured disaster in Canadian history. The June 13, 2020 Calgary and Airdrie storm produced $1.5 billion. A Calgary roof is not a 25-year asset by default. It is an impact surface.
Axion Roofing specifies roof assemblies against that reality: impact-rated shingles, correctly vented attics, and flashing details that survive wind-driven rain instead of relying on sealant.

What Axion Roofing is
Axion Roofing is a Calgary residential and commercial roofing contractor that replaces roofs, repairs storm and leak damage, and restores the full exterior envelope after hail. The company works on asphalt shingle, rubber shingle, metal and low-slope membrane systems on homes, condo boards and commercial buildings inside Calgary and the surrounding communities.
The sequence
Tear off, correct, then cover
01Every layer comes off. Shingling over an existing roof hides sheathing rot and voids most manufacturer warranties.
02Self-adhered membrane at the eaves, valleys, sidewalls and curbs. Freeze-thaw drives meltwater backward under shingles.
03Impact-rated shingles over corrected ventilation, with the flashing rebuilt rather than resealed.

Why Calgary roofs fail early
Three failure patterns account for most of the roofs Axion Roofing replaces in Calgary.
- 01
Hail bruising
Hail fractures the asphalt mat under the granule surface. The shingle looks intact from the ground for two or three seasons, then the exposed mat degrades and the roof leaks at random points rather than at one flashing. - 02
Under-ventilated attics
The National Building Code, Alberta Edition requires an unobstructed vent area of at least 1/300 of the insulated ceiling area on standard slopes, and at least 1/150 on roofs with a slope under 1 in 6. It also requires at least 25% of that opening at the top of the space and at least 25% at the bottom. Calgary attics that fail this ratio cook shingles in July and grow frost in January. - 03
Flashing installed as a sealant joint
Caulking a chimney saddle, a sidewall or a skylight curb buys three winters. Step flashing and counter-flashing buy the life of the roof.
